2015 Highlights • June 19, 2015
Over 100 people attended this year’s Annual Reception, spending an art-inspired evening on the lawn. A highlight of the evening was the ribbon cutting dedication of the new educational pavilion funded in-part by The Friends of Valley Forge. Donors were recognized for their support in funding the new pavilion. Prior to this time, the lack of an outdoor facility was a deterrent for some school groups and other visitors to come to the Park.
“Now, there is a sheltered place for school groups to have lunch and a picnic area for Park visitors, an outdoor classroom space for programs such as Join the Continental Army and Lunch & Learn, and a great gathering place for participants in recreational activities like the Revolutionary Run and volunteer work days” said Don Naimoli, Chairman of the Board.
The tranquil outdoor setting also served as the perfect backdrop to honor Sherrin H. Baky and the late Bruce A. Baky as the recipients of the second annual General Steuben Award, appreciating their respect for heritage, a visionary leadership of the Friends, and for bringing the extraordinary stories of the American Revolution to all people.
Special guests included artists from the Delaware Valley Art League plus youth painters that participated in an en plein air painting event during the first week of June. Their paintings are a part of a new exhibition titled A New Brush on Valley Forge: Artworks from the Delaware Valley En Plein Air that will be on display in the Visitor Center through September 12, 2015. Artwork is for sale through The Encampment Store. Proceeds benefit the Friends.
